About Us

This website is operated by Colin Bell trading as ukLANDROVEReventsukLANDROVERevents is our main trading name and style.  The business is also known by, and trades under the following names/styles: North Yorkshire Off Road Centre, Off Road Training, On Road Training, UKL4x4, UKLparts, and Teestech.

Our registered office address is: ukLANDROVERevents, 218 Cotswold Crescent, Billingham, TS23 2QN.  Our Off Road Centre address is: North Yorkshire Off Road Centre, Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby, North Yorkshire, YO22 4PJ.
Visits to either address are strictly by appointment only.  Official documents can be sent to us only at our registered office address, or can be sent via email to info@ukLANDROVERevents.com.

All prices include VAT at the standard (20%) rate unless otherwise stated.  Our VAT number is GB 435 7348 78, and VAT invoices are always issued.  We are registered with the Information Commissioners Office, reference number ZA904259.

I am a fully qualified Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor (Car).  The Road Traffic Act 1988 (Section 123) makes it a criminal offence to provide paid tuition in a motor car, even to full licence holders, on public or private roads including any off road tuition, unless registered by the DVSA on the ADI Register.  Very few supposed 'Off Road Instructors' comply with this important legal requirement, and many claim to be working in some 'grey area' where this qualification and approval is not necessary.  DVSA are very clear that there are no grey areas.  If you would like to see written confirmation of this from DVSA, please contact us.  Ensure any tuition, instruction or training is fully compliant and legal by only using a DVSA ADI such as with ukLANDROVERevents.  My ADI number is 735993, and my Certificate of Registration is always displayed in the vehicle when I am instructing.

About Our Scheduled Tours & Events

We run driving events solely for Land Rover based vehicles.  Some events are not suitable for all types of Land Rover, and in general only vehicles with a low range transfer gearbox are suitable.  We do accept certain non Land Rover built vehicles, provided they are based on the same construction as a Land Rover, for example the Santana, Dakar and Ibex.  Contact us if you're not sure whether your vehicle would qualify for entry.

Our green lane events are guided tours, led by an experienced guide who is also a fully qualified instructor in our guide vehicle.  Customers simply 'tag along' in their own Land Rover in a small group, following the guide vehicle.  These events follow a pre-planned and verified route along public rights of way.  Each of the trails is linked by tarmac roads, so you will not be off road all of the time.  All our routes however are planned to keep us away from major roads, and offer the most scenic drive available.  Your guide/instructor is on hand to give advice and instruction at any parts of the route that are a little more 'technical' to drive, and you will be issued with a 2 way radio to make sure you're always in touch with your guide/instructor.

We usually take a selection of photographs during our tours and events, which entrants will receive by way of a download link afterwards.  Images are licensed to you for non commercial use only.  Please read the terms of usage on the email you receive with the link to download the photographs.  You are welcome to take your own photos for personal use during our tours and events, but you must not hold up or delay the running of the tour or event when taking your photographs.  We do not permit any commercial photography on our tours or events, and images from our tours must not be used for any commercial activity.  This includes submission to magazines, online publications, competitions, or for promotion of any other business or organisation.

Cost for scheduled tours and events is per vehicle, regardless of the number of occupants, and based on the customer using their own suitable Land Rover.

All drivers will be required to check-in online in the days prior to the tour or event.  The check-in process will include confirming agreement with our disclaimer/indemnity terms.  If you would like to see these terms before booking, please ask.

Green lanes are roads.  All vehicles must be road legal, and insured for use by whoever is to drive on the event.  Any passengers must be legally seated in the vehicle.  Only drivers with a FULL driving licence are permitted to drive on our tours.  All drivers and passengers participate in the event at their own risk, and safety is the responsibility of the individual.

Customers should note, that whilst our routes are researched and generally will be non damaging, some scratches to paintwork from overhanging branches is common when driving on unsurfaced routes, and the face of alloy wheels can also be susceptible to some scuffing.  If you are not wanting to get your vehicle scratched, speak to us about the most suitable events.  Side steps and low slung towing electric points can also be vulnerable to damage, and ideally shouldn't be fitted if you're using your vehicle off road regularly.  Roof racks (and particularly roof tents) should be disclosed to us at the time of booking, as there can be height issues on some events due to enclosed trails with low branches.  Whilst road tyres are acceptable on our events, entrants should note that they are generally not as strong as an off road biased tyre, and therefore are more susceptible to punctures when driving over rough ground.  It is vital therefore, that any vehicle attending one of our events has a fully serviceable spare wheel/tyre and the means to change it.  Low profile tyres, especially road biased ones, are not recommended.

Customers should also be aware, that as our routes generally follow trails in rural areas, toilet facilities are few are far between.  Some events do not pass by any toilet facilities at all.  Most events incorporate a lunch break which is away from shops and local facilities.  Packed lunches should usually be brought with you, unless event information specifically states otherwise.

In the event of a breakdown, we will try to assist, but an event cannot be held up indefinitely.  If the vehicle cannot be repaired, we will do our best to get you to a recoverable position, but the responsibility of getting your vehicle recovered remains with the driver/owner.  We ask that all entrants are patient if we need to stop for a while to assist with a breakdown.  Remember, it could be your vehicle needing our help next!  In order to reduce the risk of any breakdowns, please ensure your vehicle is in full working order and fully roadworthy before setting off to one of our tours/events.

ukLANDROVERevents may need to alter the routes and/or the itinerary, or in rare circumstances even cancel events if outside factors dictate, including but not limited to: extreme weather, track maintenance/closure, lack of participants etc .  Please bear this in mind if booking accommodation for before/after the event.  We would recommend checking accommodation provider's cancellation policies, or having suitable travel/cancellation insurance, as ukLANDROVERevents cannot be held liable for any additional expenses you may encounter due to cancellation of our events.

COVID-19 has meant we have had to temporarily introduce some additional measures and precautions to ensure we remain COVID-Secure, and reduce the risk of infection.  If you'd like to see these measures before booking, as attendance on an event is subject to agreeing to these measures, then please see the most up to date version at the following links:  GREEN LANE TOURS  -  4x4 EXPERIENCES & TRAINING.

Bookings & Payment

The entry fee for each event is listed on our website.  There are 2 ways to book a place, online or by phone.

Online:  A booking can be made by completing the booking form on our website.  On the booking form you will be asked to choose a payment method.  Once we receive your booking form, first we will confirm that the place you are trying to book is definitely available, and then we will proceed to requesting payment.  If you opt to pay by BACS, you will receive an email with our bank details.  If you opt to pay by credit/debit card, you will receive a payment link by email, or alternatively you can call to pay over the phone.  If you opt to pay by cheque, you will receive details by email of where to send your cheque.  If you are redeeming a Gift Voucher or Credit Note, you will be able to enter the number on the booking form, and once this is confirmed you will receive your booking confirmation.

By Phone:  A booking can be made directly over the phone, by giving us your details, and those of your vehicle.  Payment can be made by either credit or debit card at the same time whilst on the phone.  Alternatively you can request details to make a BACS or cheque payment if you prefer.  You can also book by phone if you are redeeming one of our Gift Vouchers or a Credit Note.

If an event is marked as 'Fully Booked' on our website, you will be given the option of adding your name to a list of reserves, in case we get any cancellations.  In the event of a cancellation, we will work through our reserve list in the order they were added to the list, giving the opportunity to book the newly available place.  By adding yourself to our reserve list you are under no obligation to take up the place if/when offered.

For single day events, when you add yourself to the reserve list, you will be given the option of telling us whether you'd be available for an extra running of the event.  If any event is over subscribed, and enough customers are available on the day before or after (depending on whether the original event is a Saturday or Sunday), we may run another event for the reserves on the alternate day.

Cancellation Policy

SCHEDULED GREEN LANE TOURS:  Bookings made for specific scheduled events are non-refundable.  If, for circumstances beyond your control, you need to cancel a booking for a particular event, you should advise us at least 7 full days before the event is scheduled.  In these circumstances we will endeavour to re-sell your place on your behalf, and only if we are successful in reselling the place, you will be given a credit against a future booking.  All credits must be used to book events within 12 months of your original payment date.  Cancellations made in the final week prior to the scheduled event will not be eligible for credits/re-booking, and no refunds will be given.

4x4 EXPERIENCES/OFF ROAD TUITION:  Customers who, for circumstances beyond their control, need to postpone/ammend their booking may do so on condition of them advising us no later than 7 full days before the arranged booking, although the date for the re-booking is subject to availability.  The rescheduled date agreed with us must be no more than 12 months from the original payment date.  Cancellations by customers within 3 days of the arranged booking will not be eligible for re-booking and no refunds will be given.

PRIVATE EVENTS:  The agreed entry fee for the group is payable in full for the trip in question, regardless of anyone dropping out of the day.  If any individual is unable to make the trip, we are unable to reduce the total amount payable.  If the entry fee has been split amongst the group, no refund will be given to any individual who drops out of the trip.  Subject to a minimum of 7 full days notice however, private groups may postpone/amend their booking if they are unable to make the original date due to circumstances beyond their control.  Any future dates for the amended trip are subject to availability, and must in any case be rescheduled for a date no more than 12 months from the original payment date.

If for any reason any event or experience has to be cancelled by us, full refunds will be given.  We would usually only have to cancel an event if there was extreme bad weather, specific vehicle breakdown, or if there was excessive damage to any part of our route.  We will always try to give as much notice as possible in the unlikely circumstances of us having to cancel an event, and for our tours we would usually try to re-route to a less affected area.  ukLANDROVERevents cannot however be held liable for any other costs you may incur, such as for travel or accommodation.  Because of this, we urge customers NOT TO MAKE non refundable accommodation bookings.

Gift Vouchers

Gift Vouchers are sold with a specific period of validity, usually 12 months from date of purchase.  These dates are set, and expired vouchers no longer hold any value.  It is the responsibility of the voucher holder to ensure that the voucher is redeemed before it's expiry date.  Should a voucher holder, for whatever reason, not be able to use their voucher prior to the expiry date, ukLANDROVERevents may agree (after a request by email/in writing) to allow the voucher to be transferred to somebody else for them to use.  If this is authorised, the same terms and conditions, and the same expiry date will still apply.  It is the responsibility of the purchaser to ensure that terms and condition of redemption can be met by the intended recipient (ie ownership of suitable vehicle for Green Lane Tour Vouchers or driving licence validity for certain 4x4 Experiences).

Use of Our Vehicles

As well as catering for customers in their own vehicles, we also offer bookings for customers to use one of our fully prepared Land Rovers.  See the 'Our Vehicles' page for details of our small fleet.

We offer a range of 4x4 Experiences and Off Road Tuition & Driver Training, separate from our guided events.  Groups or individuals can use one of our fully prepared Land Rovers to have a go at off road driving.  Our experienced and fully qualified and approved instructor will be there with you, but you'll be in the driving seat.  For group bookings, the driving can be shared amongst the group.  Many of our experiences are held at our exclusive venue, North Yorkshire Off Road Centre in Robin Hood's Bay near Whitby in North Yorkshire.  This allows us to offer experiences for non licence holders and junior drivers, as well as those just looking for an exciting and fun activity.  Visit the '4x4 Experiences' page for more details and prices.

We also offer a range of Off Road Tuition & Driver Training using our vehicles.  Our training centre is the superb North Yorkshire Off Road Centre in Robin Hood's Bay near Whitby in North Yorkshire.  These sessions are the perfect way to learn how to handle a 4x4 vehicle off road, and can be shared by a number of drivers.  The training facility is specially designed to offer a wide variety of obstacles and terrain.  For full details of the types of training we can provide, and for prices, please visit the 'Off Road Tuition' page of the website.

Private 4x4 Tour bookings can also be made for groups or individuals who wish to have us organise an event solely for them, outside of our general scheduled events.  These private events can be for those with their own 4x4 vehicles, or if you'd like to use one of our Land Rovers (with instructor) on any of our other routes around the country.  It should be noted that some routes may be unsuitable for novice drivers.  We are also able to combine routes, or put together a bespoke tour taking in a mixture of trails from our regular routes, and we also have some pre-prepared multi-day trips such as our 'Tour Of Yorkshire' and 'Coast 2 Coast' tours.  Contact us for prices and available dates for private bookings.
